Professor Ameet G Patel is a Minimal Access Surgeon, who has been on the UK specialist register since 1998. He qualified from St Georges Hospital Medical School, London in 1985. He trained in surgery in the UK (London, Norwich, and Cambridge), Fellowship in Minimal Access, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery in Australia (Mr. George Fielding, Mr. Les Nathanson, Mr. N O’Rourke) and Research Fellowship in Pancreatic Surgery at University College, Los Angeles, USA with Professor Howard Reber.

Professor Patel was appointed Consultant Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Minimal Access Surgeon at Kings College Hospital, London in 1999. Over the last 20 years he has instigated and developed one of UK’s leading Bariatric Centres, with a special personal interest in complex, revision weight loss and single incision surgery.  He developed minimal access Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at King’s, including laparoscopic liver (UK’s First laparoscopic right hepatectomy) and laparoscopic pancreatic resections; these are now established techniques.  He is continuing to push the boundaries of day case surgery, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration, laparoscopic fundoplication (including LINX). He has also been invited to perform live surgical demonstrations and present at National and International conferences.

Professor Ameet G Patel has vast experience with over 7000 laparoscopic procedures with low complications. For his Clinical Excellence, Research, and Teaching he was awarded his Professorship from King’s College London in minimal access surgery and surgical innovation.
