Dr Trevor comes to King’s with extensive clinical, surgical, and academic experiences. His clinical interests lie in adult cardiac surgery and minimally invasive procedures, including radiofrequency ablation and mitral valve repair.

He earned his MBBS at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He became a Fellow of the College of Medicine of South Africa in before moving to New Zealand as a Consultant. In 1997 he obtained his Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He started his career in Australia at The Prince Hospital in Brisbane, working as an Adult Cardiac Surgeon. Eventually moving into private practice, he performed Australia’s first minimally invasive mitral valve repair unit. He has since performed over 600 minimally invasive mitral and combination tricuspid and atrial fibrillation surgery.

Dr Fayers has served on the Board of The Australian and New Zealand Society for Cardiothoracic Surgeons as a Secretary and former President. He has also served on the Board of Studies for RACS and The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is currently an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship Exams. He has held many executive positions in his career, including Director of Medical Services and Cardiothoracic Surgery in Brisbane’s largest Private Cardiac Surgery Unit. In addition, he served as Director of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Gold Coast University Hospital.
