Mounjaro injection, also known as Tirzepatide, is an FDA approved prescription medication that is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) through weight loss alongside exercise and diet for adults with Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic condition that weakens the way the body regulates glucose as fuel. As a result of this, high blood sugar levels are left circulating in the blood, which can lead to certain conditions that affect the nervous, immune and circulatory systems.

Not so many years ago, Type 2 Diabetes was considered a disease that only affected or was common among older adults. However, the recent increase in obesity among children has led to the disease occurring in young people too, which has since become a cause for concern.

Type 2 Diabetes Treatment

To date, there is no known cure for Type 2 Diabetes, which makes it a lifelong disease. But the good news is that the condition can be managed with a combination of lifestyle changes and medication, under the supervision of an experienced Endocrinologist/Diabetologist. These lifestyle changes include losing extra weight, following a healthy diet, and exercising on the regular, which can help one achieve their target blood sugar levels.

How Does Weight Loss Factor in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes?

According to one clinical review on Pubmed Central on the importance of weight management in type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, which is a raging epidemic worldwide, is a driving factor behind Type 2 Diabetes prevalence. Additionally, the majority of people with the condition are also overweight or obese. This excess body weight can lead to the risk of cardiometabolic problems, which lead to morbidity and mortality in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes.

By losing at least 5% of ones total weight, one can have better control of their blood sugar levels, which not only benefits an individual’s overall health, but also helps greatly in the management of Type 2 Diabetes.
