At King’s College Hospital Dubai, our visiting Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Consultant, Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinologist from HealthPlus Fertility Center, Dr Wael Ismail Madkour has decades of experience in IVF – In-Vitro Fertilization
What is IVF?
In-vitro Fertilization or IVF is an advanced treatment recommended for the management of infertility. It involves combining the egg from the female partner and the sperm from the male partner outside the body. The fertilization of the egg and the sperm is induced in a laboratory resulting in the development of embryos. Once the embryos are formed, they are placed into the uterus. The treatment is aimed at increasing the chances of conception in women.
Who is a candidate for IVF:
In-vitro Fertilization is a form of assisted reproduction treatment recommended for the management of infertility when the female or male partner has been diagnosed with:
- Abnormalities related to the uterus or fallopian tubes
- Poor egg quality
- A low sperm count
- Abnormal production of antibodies that can harm the sperms or eggs
- The inability of the sperms to penetrate the cervical canal
- Reduced mobility or chances of survival of the sperms
- Genetic diseases of mother or father
- Unexplained infertility where the cause cannot be detected
