POEM – Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy
This procedure we’re offering can be used to treat two conditions, the first is achalasia, which is a very rare but increasingly common disorder of swallowing, where the lower esophageal sphincter fails to relax and allow food through.
This is this is an important offering because the usual treatment for achalasia is laparoscopic surgery, but there is enough evidence worldwide to demonstrate that we are doing the right thing by offering and endoscopic alternative for patients.
This is a variation of the POEM procedure that Is used to treat Gastropresis. which is a common problem in patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease and other connective tissue diseases. Gastroparesis means that the stomach does not patients can’t eat they feel full very quickly and sometimes suffer from recurrent vomiting, it’s a very serious condition and we are really pleased to be able to offer the G-POEM as a variation to help manage this serious condition.
