King’s realises the importance of continued support after you have given birth and returned home. That’s why we offer Postnatal Maternity Homecare Service led by our trained midwives. Your maternal postnatal and new-born checks will be taken care of in the comfort of your own home.
The postnatal period (also known as the 4th trimester) is a time of great change and a transition into parenthood. Our community midwives are here to support you at home whilst you adjust to your new roles. We are there to answer all your questions, ensure you receive the best, evidence-based information and help you enjoy your new family member.
As community midwives we use the most up to date evidence to tailor your postnatal journey to what is best for your family whilst respecting the cultural practices and personal circumstances.
Our UK-Trained Midwives Nikki and Rebeca make up the Community Midwife team and one of these will be your named midwife following the birth of your baby. Each home-care visit is around 60 minutes.
What does a Community Midwife do at each visit?
At every visit your midwife will spend time discussing your birth and how you are adjusting to parenthood. We provide:
- A full top to toe checks on both mum and baby
- Baby weighing
- Jaundice check
- Infant feeding (breast and formula feeding)
- Wound care
- Safe sleeping education
- Postpartum recovery tips and advice
- Pelvic floor and diastasis rehabilitation advice
- Baby bath demos
We provide a variety of packages to suit your needs and all services are available for all mums. It is advised that all visits are completed by 28 days post discharge to optimise midwifery support, however, should further care be needed this will be managed on a case by case basis.
1, 3, 5, and 10 Day Packages are available.
