Coming Into Hospital
During your first appointment, we will take a detailed medical history and evaluate your health using only essential and, where possible, minimally invasive diagnostic tests. We will then discuss your options, guiding you towards the treatment path that is most appropriate based on our many years of experience and recognised good practice.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable patient administrators. They are here to help and are your first point of contact if you have any questions.
We ask you to arrive at our reception at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This gives you time to fill out any registration forms that may be required, which you can do in the comfort of one of our waiting rooms. We are very aware of local cultural considerations and provide separate waiting rooms for men and women.
Please bring the following items with you:
- Your medical/health insurance card
- Your Emirates ID card or other photo ID
- A list of your current medications and any allergies you may have
We want you to have confidence in our care and will accommodate your requirements whenever possible, so please let us know if you require a chaperone. We can arrange for one of our staff nurses to stay with you during your examination, test or treatment.
We will provide you with a gown if you need to change into one for an investigation or procedure. You can change in our private changing facilities and one of our nurses will help you if required.
For your privacy, we have separate recovery areas for men and women.
After registration, you will be assessed by a named nurse in the nurse-led triage room. They will record some basic observations such as your height, weight, temperature and blood pressure and ask you about your main reason for attending the clinic.
The nurse will store this information in your personal electronic medical records, ready for the consultant during your appointment. Storing your medical records this way helps us to ensure continuity of care and means we will have fast access to all your key information when we see you again. All details are held in the strictest confidence and you are free to access your medical records at any time.
Once your assessment is complete, one of our healthcare assistants will accompany you to your appointment with the consultant.
We aim to see everyone on time and keep waiting to a minimum, but there may be times when you will need to wait for a short while between consultations, tests or treatments.
You may also have brought family or friends with you, so we have a number of comfortable waiting areas with facilities including the Urban Bites coffee shop for light refreshments, water machines, a children’s interactive play area and a parents’ room for baby changing and feeding.
If you need to be referred to another specialist for any reason, we will provide you with a referral letter for the appropriate specialty indicating the reasons for your referral. This includes referrals to specialists in Abu Dhabi and in the UK.
We welcome your comments on your experience at King’s College Hospital Dubai. You do not need to give us your name – just your feedback. This will help us to continuously improve the services and facilities we provide. Before you leave, please fill in one of our patient feedback forms and put them in one of the special boxes.
You can also contact us with your comments.
There are two ways to pay for your consultation and any tests or treatments at Kings College Hospital London: insurance or self-funding.
When you book your appointment we will let you know whether we are able to accept your insurance plan.
Your insurance plan may require you to make a co-payment (patient contribution) for your consultation and/or treatment. This is highlighted on your personal health insurance card and is not refundable. You can make the co-payment when you come in for your appointment.
