Dr. Emran Ghaffar Khan is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Clinical Director of KIDEO, King’s Institute of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity at King’s College Hospital London in Dubai. He has more than 30 years of specialist experience in diabetes, endocrinology, obesity medicine, thyroid disease, and complex hormonal disorders.
Dr. Emarn Khan founded KIDEO from the ground up, building it from an initial single-handed practice into a multidisciplinary institute for diabetes, endocrinology, obesity, and metabolic health. Over time, he personally recruited each of the institute’s seven UK-trained consultants and continues to lead KIDEO as Clinical Director, overseeing its clinical direction, service development, and standards of care.
He qualified in 1986 and completed postgraduate specialist training across several major UK teaching hospitals, including Leicester Royal Infirmary University Hospital, Nottingham City University Hospital, Northern General University Hospital in Sheffield, Nobles Hospital in the Isle of Man, and Macclesfield District General Hospital in Manchester. He holds dual Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in London and Edinburgh, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Leadership, and serves as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. Emran Khan’s practice covers the full spectrum of endocrine and metabolic medicine, with particular expertise in diabetes, obesity, thyroid disease, pituitary and adrenal disorders, PCOS / PMOS, men’s hormonal health, and calcium and parathyroid disorders. He has a strong interest in weight management and the use of evidence-based medical therapies for obesity and metabolic disease, and was the first physician outside the United States to prescribe both tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and orforglipron (Foundayo), reflecting KIDEO’s position at the forefront of next-generation metabolic care.
Weight Management
Dr. Emran Khan has a particular interest in medical weight management, including the use of newer GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 therapies where appropriate. His work in this area focuses on careful patient selection, metabolic assessment, and longer-term follow-up, with treatment plans shaped around each patient’s health profile, risks, and goals.
He established and chairs a dedicated weekly multidisciplinary team meeting for thyroid cancer and complex endocrine cases at King’s College Hospital Dubai, bringing together a 12-specialist panel across endocrinology, neurosurgery, radiology, pathology, and related disciplines to review complex cases in a coordinated way. This MDT supports detailed case discussion, treatment planning, surgical decision-making, imaging review, and follow-up for patients with thyroid cancer / endocrine conditions.
Dr. Emran Khan also has an interest in longevity-focused metabolic care, particularly where endocrine health, obesity, insulin resistance, cardiometabolic risk, and healthy aging intersect. This includes individualized assessment and prevention-focused care designed to support longer-term metabolic health and reduce future disease risk.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Khan has a longstanding interest in teaching, mentoring, and clinical leadership, and has helped train doctors who have gone on to become specialists in endocrinology and diabetes care.
