Dr. Basem Al Khalil is a UK-trained Consultant Pediatric and Neonatal Surgeon with a subspecialization in pediatric colorectal surgery. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in short gut syndrome and treats patients from around the world.
Before joining King’s, Dr. Basem worked as a Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where he served as Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Secretary of the hospital’s Medical Staff Committee. He was also the Regional Specialty Professional Advisor for Pediatric Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the North West of England.
During his tenure in Manchester, Dr. Basem was one of two surgeons leading the internationally renowned short gut syndrome service. He also served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and the University of Salford.
He was later recruited by Sidra Medicine in Qatar, where he became part of the Founding Faculty of Pediatric Surgery and served as Director of Neonatal Surgery. He subsequently returned to the UK to take on the role of Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at the prestigious Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Dr. Basem holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, a PhD in Public Health from the University of Gloucestershire, and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of London.
