Prof. Dr. Sergey Leontyev is a German-trained Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in heart surgery. He is Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Leipzig and has completed specialist fellowships in minimally invasive cardiac surgery in Germany and Canada. Over his career, he has performed more than 7,500 cardiac operations, including over 500 minimally invasive procedures and more than 1,000 transcatheter interventions.

Prof. Leontyev specializes in minimally invasive heart valve surgery, complex aortic surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting, and structural heart procedures. His experience includes mitral, tricuspid, and aortic valve repair and replacement, as well as aortic root and total aortic arch surgery. He also performs off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, which allows selected patients to undergo bypass surgery without the use of a heart-lung machine.

Prof. Leontyev performs transcatheter procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and mitral valve repair. These may be an option for patients with complex valve conditions who face higher risks with open-heart surgery. He also carries out minimally invasive valve surgery, using smaller incisions and video-assisted techniques where appropriate.

Alongside his clinical practice, Prof. Leontyev holds several senior positions in Germany. He is Medical Director of Helios Private Clinic Leipzig, Managing Senior Physician at Leipzig Heart Center, and Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Leipzig. He has also served as Assistant Director at Leipzig Heart Center, combining his surgical work with clinical leadership, research, and the training of future cardiac surgeons.
