Dr Lisa Sharkey is a UK-trained Consultant Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in enteral and parenteral nutrition support and intestinal rehabilitation, small bowel disorders, GI complications of systemic diseases, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, functional disorders, and perimenopausal GI symptoms, inflammatory bowel disease, functional disorders, and perimenopausal GI symptoms.
She received her medical degree from Cambridge University, graduating with first-class honours for her undergraduate degree. She underwent her training in the East of England Gastroenterology rotation, which included a research fellowship in Intestinal Failure and Liver Disease. She eventually joined Cambridge University Hospitals, UK, as a Consultant in 2015, where she spearheaded the highly successful intestinal transplant programme, which boasted some of the world’s best outcomes.
Dr Sharkey’s contributions to the field are widespread. She has spoken at conferences globally, has numerous publications in leading journals, and has penned chapters for various textbooks. Presently, she’s a council member of the International Intestinal Rehabilitation and Transplant Association and is a member by invitation of NNedPro Global Centre and the International Academy of Nutrition Educators. She was a Nutrition representative to the British Society of Gastroenterology Training Committee for over five years, indicating her passion for nutrition education.
