Dr Nirmala Murthy is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 18 years of extensive experience, with a special interest in female genital tract pre-cancer screening and treatment of early-stage cancers. She also specializes in related oncology, abdominal surgery (open and laparoscopic), vulval disease, minimal access surgery and labour ward practice.

She obtained her primary medical degree from the University of Madras, and then completed her advanced training at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and secured a spot on the UK’s Specialist Register. She also completed her CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the West of Scotland training programme. In addition to Fellowship, she holds a diploma in family planning and sexual health and Colposcopy accreditation from the British Society of Colposcopy and cervical pathology.

She has held several key leadership positions, including the Cancer Unit Lead and Post-Menopausal Bleeding Lead, for two years at the NHS. She was a tutor at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology until joining us at King’s. She is also the Deputy Lead of Southampton medical school for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Since her registrar days, she has been chairing multidisciplinary team meetings and an active trainer at mandatory Obstetrics emergency skills and drills. In addition, she has been a panel member for the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, interviewing doctors as a part of National Recruitment into Specialist training- Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
