Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell, making difficulty in breathing along with cough and wheezing.
Asthma can interfere with daily activities and may lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.
Unfortunately, Asthma can’t be cured, but its symptoms can be controlled. Because asthma often changes over time, it’s important that you work with your doctor to track it and adjust treatment as needed.
Asthma symptoms are variable, and include:
- Chest tightness or chest pain (Heavy chest)
- wheezing sound in the chest
- Shortness of breath that may limit your activity
- Those symptoms may get worse at night
- Those Symptoms are worsened by respiratory infections, such as the flu or a cold or the flu.
For some people, asthma can be triggered also certain situations:
- Allergy-induced asthma, triggered by allergens (pollens, dust mites, animal furs, moulds…)
- Exercise-induced asthma, triggered by exercise
- Occupational asthma, triggered by workplace irritants
When should I see my Pulmonologist:

- If you think you may have asthma. If you have symptoms of asthma, see your doctor. This may prevent lung damage over time.
- To monitor your asthma. Asthma is an ongoing condition that needs regular monitoring and treatment. This may help you to keep your asthma controlled and to prevent asthma attack.
- If your symptoms get worse.
- To review and to refill your treatment. to discuss any needed treatment adjustments.
