King’s UAE hospital impresses at the Middle East Architect Award Ceremony
Dubai, 5th December 2017: King’s upcoming Dubai-based hospital has been recognised as a leading project of architectural excellence in the region, winning the Middle East Architect Award on 22nd November 2017. The state of the art facility, conceptualised by King’s appointed architects Perkins + Will, won amid fierce competition, including a prestigious research centre, a university, a school and a corporate headquarters.
The Awards, now in their 10th year, are renowned as a benchmark of success in the Middle East’s architectural sector, bringing together the very best in the region, including key markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia. King’s prevailed amongst stiff competition for its 100-bed hospital, centrally located in Dubai and designed to exemplify modernity and tradition with a façade inspired by the textured landscape of windblown sand. The texture, the epitome of architectural expression, wraps around the hospital to provide self-shading and minimise direct solar exposure. Intelligently designed to take into consideration Dubai’s hot and sunny climate, the hospital’s design also allows natural sunlight to deploy its healing properties.
The architects have designed the hospital so that it is prominently visible from the main road, while creating an easy route for visitors and patients. The hospital is currently under construction, located in a plot at the heart of the premium development of ‘Dubai Hills’, and will serve a vast catchment area, with King’s three other UAE based clinics and medical centers feeding into it.
The hospital’s launch will follow the footsteps of the three UAE-based medical centres, two located in Dubai and one, the brand’s flagship medical and surgical centre, in Abu Dhabi. Once the hospital’s facilities are operational in 2019, King’s will serve a catchment area of hundreds of thousands of patients every year. It will further serve the community by creating jobs for UAE based healthcare professionals (HCPs) and international doctors wishing to come to the UAE.
