The experts at King’s College Hospital in Dubai have designed a unique evidence based, type 2 diabetes remission program based on extensive research performed by UK specialists.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus, is caused by the pancreas not making enough insulin causing the body to develop a resistance to it and thus leading to high blood glucose (blood sugar) levels.
- Frequent urination
- Sudden weight loss
- Blurry vision
Research showing the remission of diabetes through calorie restriction originally came about in the 1990’s in Bariatric surgery.
The Direct Study of over 300 participants on a low calorie liquid diet for 8-12 weeks, that involved the structured reintroduction of food, 86% of people who lost more than 15kg of weight achieved complete remission. 57% of people who lost 10-15kg achieved complete remission. Only 4% of people receiving standard dietary advice achieved complete remission.
The Counter Balance Study involving 29 participants the outcomes of HbA1c, blood pressure and anthropometry were measured during an 8 week very low-calorie diet.
The study involved two groups – those who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes less than 4 years ago and those who were diagnosed with diabetes more than 8 years ago. 87% of the short-duration group and 50% of the long-duration group achieved non-diabetic fasting plasma glucose levels at week 8.
Clinically significant improvements in blood pressure and lipid profile were seen regardless of diabetes duration.
