Prostate gland enlargement, also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition that occurs in men as they get older. An enlarged prostate means that the glands have grown bigger than they should. The reason why an enlarged prostate is called benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is because the growth is not cancerous, hence the risks of developing prostate cancer are minimal.
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men worldwide. This type of cancer occurs in the prostate, a small walnut-shaped gland located in the pelvis, which is responsible for the production of the seminal fluid that forms part of semen. This type of cancer grows slowly and affects mostly older men.
Prostatitis is a condition that occurs in the prostate gland as a result of inflammation, causing the gland to become tender and swollen. Prostatitis is very different from prostate cancer and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Unlike prostate cancer and BPH which are common among older men, prostatitis is common among younger men, although it can occur to men of any age group.
