Nose Surgery
Nose surgery, also known as Rhinoplasty, is a procedure which aims at correcting the physical structure of the nose, as well as improve its medical functions like breathing problems or bone structure. Nose surgery reconstructs the nose by modifying the cartilage or the bone of the nose by not only manipulating the size of the nose but also modifying the shape of the tip, nostrils, and bridge of the nose.
There are two techniques involved in nose surgery:
- Closed rhinoplasty, which entails altering the nose shape from the nostrils
- Open rhinoplasty, which uses a small incision between the nostrils whereby the skin is pulled up.
Sinus Surgeries
Sinuses are bony air-filled cavities that not only reduce the weight of the skull but form the bony buttresses which provide the foundation of the facial soft tissue. The sinuses of the facial skeleton protect important organs such as the eyes and the forebrain acting as crash barriers and airbags.
There are several conditions that affect the sinus which may require different types of sinus surgical procedures including:
- Septoplasty
- Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS)
- Balloon sinuplasty
- Functional rhinoplasty
- Caldwell-Luc operation
- Turbinate reduction
